Climate change is now regarded as an existential risk for the human race. 195 countries have pledged to limit global warming to well below 2°C through the Paris Agreement negotiated last December. In the follow-through of this historical event, the United Nations estimated that an annual sum of US$5-7 trillion in green financing is necessary for the transition to a sustainable and low-carbon world. As the Hong Kong government has taken up green finance as a core policy, new opportunities are opening up for the private sector.

As a non-profit organization dedicated to the nurturing and development of innovative solutions, policies and practices in response to today's climate change and sustainability challenges, CarbonCare Innolab (CCIL) is proud to present the CarbonCare® Label Scheme.

​

The CarbonCare® Label is a unique scheme. Since its launch in late 2011, over 170 labels have been awarded to listed companies, private companies, public bodies, SMEs and NGOs in recognition of their efforts and commitment in carbon management and sustainability strategies.

In the CarbonCare® Label 2016 series, applicants may choose one or all of the three initiatives:

 

• The CarbonCare® Label – Entity-wide carbon management: recognizes the efforts of companies and organizations in their action to tackle climate change and achieve carbon reduction/neutrality status

 

• The CarbonCare® Action Label – Pioneer carbon reduction action: acknowledges companies and organizations that have taken the first concrete step to implement new and effective carbon reduction measures

• The CarbonCare® ESG Label – Solid preparation for HKEx ESG reporting: recognizes those listed and non-listed companies with high standards of reporting and credible plans for further reporting improvements

​

Each of the labels requires substantive effort to achieve, but all of the labels are a recognition of excellence in the journey to sustainability. With the emergence of green finance and climate innovation, it is crucial that Hong Kong companies get prepared and stay competitive with its carbon reduction efforts and sustainability actions. This is exactly what the CarbonCare® Label scheme will help to achieve. CCIL welcomes all companies/organizations that fulfill our eligibility criteria to apply.

Note:

• In keeping with the widespread practice of environmental awards being supervised by value-driven, non-governmental organizations with a non-profit status, CarbonCare® labels shall be awarded by CarbonCare InnoLab from 2016. Carbon Care Asia, the previous awarder, will only act in a supporting role for this programme.
